Instruments

If you have the "The Edges of Twilight" cd you've probably noticed they use alot of Eastern instruments this page will tell you a little something about those instruments.

Harmonium- A keyboard instrument. Developed in the first half of thr 19th century. The harmonium used by the Tea Party is a special hand hand pumped version of the instrument. It can be heard on "The Bizaar" and "Inanna".

Santur- Persion dulamer with 12 to 18 sets of metal strings. Hand held hammers generate the sound when they strike the strings. Heard on "Walk with me".

Percusion: The Darabukkah, Djembe, and the Dombak are all goblet drums from North Africa, the middle east, and most areas of Islamic influence. They're made form either clay, wood, or metal. Heard on "Sister Awake", "Inanna (the acoustic version)" and "The Bazaar".

Sarod- An Indain stringd instrument with 4 or 5 melody strings 3 to 5 drones strings and 11 to 16 sympathetic strings. The male version of the Sitar. Heard on "Inanna".

Sitar- An Indain stringed instrument with 4 melody strings 3 dronestrings 12 to 20 sympathetic strings all are metal. Heard on "Sister Awake" and "Inanna".

Saz- A Turkish lute consisting of a long wooden neck and a pear body. The band picked this up while shooting the video of "The Bizaar" in Turkey.

Hurdy Gurdy- A viol shaped stringed instrument that is bowed by turning a crank at the base of the instrument that spins a rosened wooden wheel touching the strings which results in sound being produced. Heard on "Sister Awake", and "The Badger".

Tamboura- An Indian stringed drone instrument consisting of a gourd body and a hollow wooden neck to which 4 or 5 strings are attached. Heard on "Inanna", and "Sister Awake".

Harp Guitar- Created in the early 1900's by the Gibson guitar company. The harp guitar was used in place of a normal acoustic when a distinctive tone and sound was required. The Tea Party owns one of only seven in the world.
